Will this major get me into a construction management masters

Will this major get me into a construction management masters?
I'm currently a business management major with an information systems concentration but I want to pursue construction management. I'm going into my sophomore year in school do you think I should just transfer or finish this degree and pursue the construction degree as a masters if that's possible. Doesn't seem like it is.

im not sure... but if you decide to transfer...SUNY ESF has undergrad in Construction Management- im not sure which other schools have it though sorry for my small knowledge on the subject

2
If you are studying in the same field i think you should pursue the construction company it will be really very beneficial for you in future.

3
I'm a senior in Construction Management right now, and while I have taken a lot of Business classes, I also have to take a very very very fair share of engineering classes, hence why the CM major is in the college of engineering. While you are still as sophomore, I would say that it would be wise to switch your major to Construction Management if you plan on getting a masters in it, but by all means.... talk to your adviser first. Something else you could do is talk to a CM adviser in the college of engineering, and see what they have to say.

Go for MBA-part time so that you can continue in your job. After a few years, may be you can go for Ph.D. in Marketing or Customer Relationships or Moral Approach to Commerce and Consumerism.

2
Those are MS degrees. Universities don't grant MBA in information systems, or MBA in finance, or MBA in marketing. The MBA is a general degree preparing students for management positions in any level of a business, up to CEO. MBA students study accounting, finance, marketing, management, statistics, economics, strategy, policy, and other courses. Many MBA programs offer concentrations in these and many other fields, but that amounts to only 2-3 courses in your chosen field in the second year of study. Many students avoid a concentration and take a variety of elective subjects to gain a broader background. By the time you finish the first year you'll be able to decide which concentration interests you. The MBA is not like an MS degree that concentrates study in a single field and prepares students for high level staff or research positions. The MS typically requires an undergraduate education in the field in which you want the MS, or a closely related field. A finance major does not get an MS in chemistry, and a chemistry major does not get an MS in accounting. MBA programs accept students in any undergraduate field. They prefer students who do not have a business background because they give you the business training but they cannot provide the broad background that managers should have. I have taught MBA students with degrees in Music, Medicine, Dentistry, Law. Psychology, Political Science, Chemistry, Biology, engineering, and many other fields. Most MBA programs prefer students with 2-3 years work experience after the first degree, but many accept students right out of college if they have good grades and a high GMAT score. Some MBA programs are designed specifically for new college graduates without work experience. MBAs with good grades are in high demand and they command good starting salaries. To find the MBA program that best fits your background, criteria and preferences, a good source of information is the Official MBA Guide, a free public service at http://officialmbaguide.org. You can use it to select programs in specific geographic regions, specific concentrations, or specific types of programs, such as full-time, part-time, executive, distance learning, and accelerated. You can specify criteria that are important to you and get a ranked list of programs that best fit those criteria. From the Guide you can go directly to a school's URL or contact schools by email. The MBA degree was originally created because engineers working for companies were promoted to managerial positions, and often they did not know how to manage, although they were good engineers. Companies needed managers who could understand what the engineers were saying, and managers without engineering degrees often did not understand the engineers and their needs. Business schools responded by creating the MBA degree. It is a general degree designed to train student to enter any area of management. Most MBA programs accept students with any undergraduate degree. The MBA is in contrast to the MS degree which trains students to reach higher levels of knowledge in their specialty so that they can serve as better staff and researchers, with no intention of becoming high level managers.

What are the major differences in an MBA and a Master of Science in Management

What are the major differences in an MBA and a Master of Science in Management?
I have found that at most schools to get an MBA you must have earned an undergraduate degree in business administration or accounting and for a Master of Science in Management you can have almost any undergraduate degree. Do people with these degrees compete for the same postions? Or is one better than the other?

I would suggest you do neither and instead enter the workforce so you can gain experience for a few years; you'll then have a clear understanding of what the strengths and weaknesses are. Honestly, if you don't know what you're going to gain with a graduate degree you really should not be going after it. Sounds to me like you just want to put off entering the real world. Employers know this and will negatively view your application.

Business and a Hotel Management Master?
Hey, I'm in my last year of High school and I always wanted to work in hotels. I thought that I should study Hotel Management and then (after some experience) get a Master(of H.M too) However people told me that it should be much better if I study 4 years of business in US and then specialize in H.M with a Master in Switzerland 4 example. I'm trying to prepare all this before the deadlines, because I want 2 go 2 CA( thinking about Stanford which will be impossible, USC, UNLV..or sth like that..) I dont mind what do i have 2 study if with that i can get a good job in 5 stars hotel.. Opinions please, im too lost coz around me anyone can help me 2 decide.. Thanks!

okay I studied hospitality Management and I am not working so much in a hotel but lecturing next year I am gonna travel and the year after that I would like to do my MBA so basically I think you are having a wonderful Idea to combine the 2 because that is what Im gonna do. But please don't be fooled by the glamour of working in the hospitality industry it is hard work research has showed that most of hospitality employees use drugs. because it is such terrible shifts to work. It is very stressful enviroment the chef is throwing things around the restaurant staff is acting as if nothing is wrong altough everything is falling apart in the kitchen My advise to you is go and work in a hotel and ask yourself is this what I want because yes you will get a better position with your qualifications but it basically comes down to the same thing working with people (guest) Making them feel good even though you would like to kill them with your own bare hands I beg you to maybe work in the hospitality industry for a year or so before you study it Im not trying to demotivate you I am talking out of experience and while teaching some student I can see that they did not make the right choice. But at the same time I think you sound very responsible and you did your research follow your heart and do what you have to do to make your dreams come true

Project management is just organizing small projects and teams. It takes a very detail-oriented person to take on this job. Business management is what you want to study if you want to run a whole company. This involves every aspect of running a business.

2
Instead of taking a masters just take a course on it or certification. This certification can be done at night so you don't have to quit your day job while doing it.

Most of the event planners I know (quite a few) got certificates in event planning from a college. At the end you get a certificate, which from a school like NYU, has some meaning.

Major in Business Administration and talk to your academic advisor about your future career goals. He / she will point you in the right direction as to what courses to take that relate to your goals! Good luck!

2
well, first you should learn how to spell college* and improve your grammar a lot if you plan on aiming for a top school where you will get the connections to greatly expand your business. Right now real-estate is doing terrible and will continue to tank despite the current market trends. But, as we know, every time we go into a recession we come back stronger then ever. So, for those who have the money, it would be wise to hold off a little longer and then start buying things up. An M.B.A is only worth it if you can get into a top 25, maybe top 50 school. So if that's not within your reach, I personally don't think it's worth the time and effort. You pay for an M.B.A for the connections, not really for the education. At a top school you will be able to network and establish connections that will help expand your business beyond your belief. Remember, real-estate is a business based on who you know more then what you know. There are so many brokers out there now since the degree is so easy to get that the competition is insanely high, and only those in the business for a long time who have already established long-term connection will continue to prosper.

What is difference between Master in Management and MBA

What is difference between Master in Management and MBA?
Hi, First of all let me give my background information. I am from NZ and have done my Masters in Computer and Information Sciences. I have 3 years experience in IT industry. I work as a Software tester and I am interested to look forward towards management opportunities. As I don't have any management experience, I don't get opportunity to work in management field. Not sure, any tips what should I do in such a situation? I think I should do further studies in management field. Now my question is, What is difference between Master in Management and MBA? opportunity wise where do they sit? Also, I am looking for cheaper option. which country will be best? UK, US, Canada, Australia or NZ itself? I am also not interested to spend 2 years in these studies (as I have already studied a lot ;) ) I want to do a one year MBA or Master in Management course. The other thing, I need to think about is that I should get some open work permit after my education so that I can find a job and of course repay the loan which I will take to pursue this education. Your help and experience can make a difference to me. Thanks for the help. Cheers!!!

Hi.Master in Management is the degree obtained after a High School, specialised on Management.MBA-Master of Bussiness and Afairs,is the next level, that you can obtain after a night agik class by example. Next level is Ph D-doctorate.For ever degree on your CV you may obtain a good job.By example they are a lot of jobs, were you can't apply without the corresponding degrees-masterat,MBA,doctorate. In any case the cheaper option is on-line course,if neccesary. Good luck!

Hi, I would suggest to go for studies in the management field, but maybe you can look for something that combines Management and IT. I know at IE Business School (ranked 06th in the Finantial Times) they have a Master in Digital Business which belongs to the Master in Management programs and lasts 1 year. They have practices included worldwide. It´s in Spain, therefore it will be a cheaper option, but the program is in english! Good luck!

If, after getting my RN, I decide to get my masters in management, could I get laid off more easily?
I talked to someone and they said if you get into hospital management after being an RN, you have better chances of getting laid off in the case of a budget cut. Is that true? I've thought about getting a hospital management masters so I could be a Director of Nursing. Could I be cut easier than if I stayed as just an RN?

keep moving up. and be the best you can possibly be at your job. so it will give them the motive to not lay you off. do what you want to do.

2
In some settings this could definitely be true. Staff nurses are often employed under contract and have some degree of job protection, especially once you have a bit of seniority under your belt. Management and administrative positions are often non-contract positions, and management jobs are often first on the chopping block when it's time to make cuts. But if you do your job well, and if you don't have a lot of other people doing similar jobs where you work and you are the one who is "running" the unit you're on, then you will be less likely to be a victim of cuts.

3
Make sure you keep your RN license active. You can always fall back on it if you have to.

What is you're opinion on a master degree in Project Management from Boston University Online - Good or Not?
I am looking at taking a Master's Program from a regionally accredited university (Boston University) in Project Management. It would be a Master's of Science in Project Management as the full title. It's not an 'MBA' but it does have similar subject matter within it's curriculum. It costs $38,000 in comparison to nearly $50K for an MBA. My question is - Is it worth it? Would this be looked upon favorablyby a potential employer.

Would it be logical to get a bachelor's in accounting (undergrad) and master's in business management

Would it be logical to get a bachelor's in accounting (undergrad) and master's in business management?
I want to be an accountant (probably a CPA), so would it be logical to get a bachelor's at undergrad school in accounting and, since the grad school that I really want to go to doesn't offer an accounting master's, get a master's in business management in grad school? Or is it pretty much necessary to continue with accounting in grad school if I want to be an accountant?
Higher Education (University +) - 1 Answers

Several states require people who wish to sit for the CPA exam to have at least 150 hours of courses, which basically means a bachelor's and master's. Not sure about the state that you live in, but in my state you must have 33 hours of accounting courses--which can easily be fulfilled by the requirements for an undergraduate major in accounting. Most people I know who sit for the exam get their master's in accounting, based on the area of accounting they wish to practice after passing the exam. It's totally up to you what you decide to do, but I think getting your master's in accounting would be more beneficial (in terms of keeping your mind refreshed for test material, etc.) The only other option that I would consider is getting an MBA with a concentration in accounting. MBAs are highly sought after and could help you in accounting or if you eventually chose to pursue another career path.

Is a health policy/ systems management master's degree worth seeking with the new obama healthcare plan

Is a health policy/ systems management master's degree worth seeking with the new obama healthcare plan?
am currently interested in seeking a grad degree in new orleans for health policy and systems management. i would like to know exactly what they do (or can do) and whether Obama's healthcare situation will hurt me in finding a job in the next couple of years which is when i would be graduating. i would also like to know the salary for an entry level position w/ a masters. my other plan would be to go apply for a Phd in Biopsychology, but i'm feeling iffy about that. serious answers only. please do not tell me to google something or send me to a website, i would like to know your own opinion from experienece. Thanks!

Everything that now exists will continue to exist, with minor modification. Nothing is being eliminated, and many things are being added. If their are jobs in that field now, there will probably still be jobs. Obama's plan did not pass and will not do anything. Obama's health care situation is that when he leaves office, in either 2012 or 2016, he and his wife will need to get health insurance for themselves and their children. Since this is only four individuals out of the entire country, it will not have a significant impact on your employment prospects. The health care plan that did pass was Congress's plan, not Obama's plan.

Most HR Management concentrations are within MBA programs, which require a certain number of years work experience before applying. So chances are, if you're not connected, you'll need to either a) work for a few years, then apply; or b) go to a school that doesn't require previous years of work experience, which is not going to be a top school. As far as the mix, that shouldn't be a problem at all. Just make sure you have the prerequisites (some schools require calculus, economics, etc. before admission to their programs. Make sure you check with the schools early).

I am pursuing a Bachelor's in Information Technology, is a Master's in Management a value add

I am pursuing a Bachelor's in Information Technology, is a Master's in Management a value add?
I am pursuing a Bachelor's in Information Technology from University of South Florida. I am then considering getting a Master's in Management. My goal is to lead an IT team or better yet, organization. Is getting this Master's degree going to be a value-add? Is it viewed by the industry as worth while? The last thing I want to get is a very expensive piece of paper that provided no additional value. Any thoughts?

Well, the IT field is vastly overcrowded as it is. There are hundreds of applicants for every IT job that opens up. I don't think a Master's in 'Management' would make you stand out. What WOULD make you stand out is job experience.

If you're looking for a job in business, the MBA is probably better, but if you're planning on continuing your education further (PhD), you could go either way.
